Takeaway

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse earns a 7/10 Chum score. Fast exploration, difficult bosses, and a famous series make each objective easy to pitch, with strong reviews supporting a full campaign. The launch category is crowded, and early PC complaints mean a smaller creator needs more than a routine playthrough.

What is Castlevania: Belmont's Curse?

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is a side-view action-exploration game set in Paris in 1499. You play Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, crossing connected districts and a monster-filled castle while using a whip, movement abilities, and a growing set of powers to stop the force behind the attack.

A normal stretch of play moves through combat rooms, traversal challenges, and branching passages until a new ability or key opens another route. Enemies reward timing and positioning, while bosses turn those lessons into longer tests. Searching away from the direct path supplies upgrades and context, so the campaign alternates between forward progress and deliberate backtracking.

The game follows the exploration structure associated with later Castlevania entries, but its movement is faster and more fluid than the older games it references. Rose's curse is both a story problem and a source of power, giving progression a character-specific purpose instead of presenting another Belmont with the same kit.

Konami places the story 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and built it with Evil Empire and Motion Twin. The launch covers PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch version remains planned for later in 2026 and is not part of this review.

How the game has been received

Critics have responded strongly. On 20 October, OpenCritic showed an 85 average with 96% recommending it, and Metacritic listed an 84 from 59 PlayStation 5 reviews. TechRadar and GamesRadar both praised the combat and exploration.

Steam's response was more qualified, with about 71% of more than 5,000 reviews positive at the same check. PC technical complaints explain much of that gap. The critical strength supports a continuing campaign, while the platform split keeps the recommendation below the top tier and makes a pre-stream performance check sensible.

The Chum score measures streamability, not conventional game quality. Strong reviews help audience interest, but category pressure and conversational space still shape the verdict.

The streamer verdict

The campaign supplies dependable episode markers. A new district, movement power, or boss can define a stream, and returning viewers can understand progress from the map and current objective. Deaths are short enough to build tension without ending the evening.

Discovery is the challenge. Many large channels will cover a new Castlevania, so a blind run alone is a weak pitch. Challenge rules, a series retrospective, or a route that welcomes audience theories gives the broadcast a clearer identity. Spoiler moderation matters because map and boss knowledge are easy to drop into chat.

A sensible stream format

Use boss-to-boss episodes with one declared side objective, such as finding every upgrade in the current district. Save build and route discussion for map pauses, then let difficult rooms play without forcing constant chat interaction.

Final verdict

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse earns a 7/10 Chum score. Action and series specialists get a readable, well-received campaign with excellent highlights. Heavy launch coverage and uneven PC sentiment mean the stream needs a specific format and a tested setup.
