How Streamlabs stacks up

Streamlabs Desktop is built on the OBS engine. That is not a secret. They say so in their FAQ. You get scenes, sources, a preview, and the widgets sitting in the same window, so you are not hunting a browser-source URL on night one.

• A free encoder you can actually finish a stream with: alerts, some themes, recording.
• A large overlay and widget theme library. Ultra unlocks the full set (they quote 1,000+).
• A tip page. Streamlabs does not take a cut of the tip. Payment processors still charge their fees.
• Cloudbot: commands, timers, quotes, giveaways, media share, automod.
• Their other apps if you pay Ultra: Talk Studio for guests, Cross Clip, Video Editor.

Cloud multistream (their servers, less extra encode on your PC) sits on Streamlabs Ultra: $27 a month, or $189 a year on their FAQ. The free app still goes live. Ultra is the bundle: the theme library, guests, merch margins, the pro clip and editor apps.

Where Streamlabs is a weaker fit

Cloudbot can sit in several chats. It is still a bot dashboard: commands, filters, timers. It is not a live mod desk. You do not get one scrolling feed with a timeout button that only hits the platform that message came from, plus a person you invited who can run that desk without your password. You also do not get viewer profiles that build themselves from ordinary chat, or a two-line brief on the regular who just typed.

• The encoder window will not timeout a YouTube chatter for you. Cloudbot can automate. Your human mod is still bouncing between native chats, or reading a combined pane that cannot ban on the source platform the way a desk can.
• Themes look like Streamlabs themes. Fine if you want a finished pack tonight. Less fine if you wanted chat, alerts, and a cam frame that match because you described them once.
• Ultra is $27 a month for the library and creator-suite apps. If you wanted the desk, that is a different bill.
• Desktop is still OBS under the hood. Docks, sources, and "why is the audio ducking" do not vanish because the alerts are built in.

Overlays and how the stream looks

StreamChum wins if the look should be yours, not a theme from a store. Describe chat, alerts, and the cam frame so they share a collection. Or start with a pack and restyle later. Those URLs drop into Studio or into OBS as browser sources. Setup is in the overlay guide, not in this post.

Streamlabs wins on volume of ready-made looks. You pick a theme, the alerts and frames already match, you go live. Ultra is how you unlock the big library instead of the free slice.

Going live

Studio is go-live in the same product as the desk. The OBS plugin stays if you are not ready to leave OBS. You still get Live Center either way. The Studio guide is the setup.

Streamlabs Desktop is the path of least surprise if you already think in OBS docks. Multistream through their cloud is the Ultra upsell. Fine if the encoder is the product you opened.

Chat, mods, and the people who come back

This is the actual fork. StreamChum is strong at the human desk: one list, a timeout that does not ban the wrong platform, a mod who is not borrowing your password, and a memory of who that chatter is. Streamlabs is strong at bot work: !so, filters, a giveaway, a media-share queue.

• Live Center: great when YouTube and Kick are typing while you are in a fight, and you still need to answer.
• Cloudbot: great when you want automation in chat without another PC app.
• You can run Live Center for the humans and Cloudbot for commands. They are not allergic to each other.

Money: tips, merch, and what you pay

StreamChum: 14-day full desk, no card. Then Plus or Pro. USD list is $9.99/month or $99/year for Plus, $16.99/month or $169/year for Pro. Both include the desk and go-live. They differ by creative AI credits, seats, and retention. Ko-fi is the donation hook we fire in overlays. Streamlabs: free Desktop and a lot of the bot. Ultra $27/month or $189/year for the bundle they list in the FAQ. Tips go through their page; they take 0% (processors still fee). Merch is their store, with better margins on Ultra.

If you only compare the monthly number, Ultra is more expensive than Plus. That is not a cheat. Ultra is paying for a theme library and a creator suite. Plus is paying for the desk. Buy the one whose features you will click.

You can use both

The encoder and the desk do not have to be the same vendor. Open Live Center first. Keep whatever already looks good on the canvas.

• Go live from Studio. Run Live Center. That is the StreamChum night.
• Keep Streamlabs Desktop for the picture and widgets you already built. Run Live Center in the browser.
• Stay in OBS with the StreamChum plugin, and Streamlabs widgets still pasted as browser sources.

How to actually choose

• Twitch, YouTube, and Kick in one feed, and you need to see and moderate all three: StreamChum.
• Overlays that match because you described them, and scenes that get laid out from a sentence: StreamChum.
• Viewers in the game from a browser, virtual pads, a waiting room: StreamChum Play.
• You already like Streamlabs widgets and chat is still three tabs: keep Desktop, add Live Center.
• A free encoder tonight with themes in the app: Streamlabs Desktop.
• A native tip page and merch in the same login: Streamlabs.
